New Delhi: Yet another blow for common man! After the hike in diesel, petrol and LPG, the electricity prices are likely to be increased by 10 to 30 percent in New Delhi.

Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has prepared to implement new rates for the year 2011-12, which are likely to be announced by Saturday.

According to the DERC officials, the power tariff would increase by 10 to 30 percent. However, it is not clear that rates will rise by what percentage, especially when the Delhi government has yet not cleared its stand on the rise of electricity tariff.

During the year 2009-10, the Delhi government provided electricity at subsidized rate of Re 1 per unit to consumers who consume 200 units per month and hail from financially weak background. If the same would not be provided to them, they will have to buy electricity at expensive rates.

DERC Chairman and members at the meeting are yet to give go ahead on the new tariff. After consensus the new electricity price will be announced. Confirming this, PD Sudhakar, Chairman, DERC said the new electricity prices will be announced this week.
