Chandigarh: The Haryana government on Tuesday termed power situation as grim, saying that paddy sowing season and lack of rain have aggravated power woes.

The state is facing power shortage of 200 lakh units per day against the demand for power at 1600 lakh units. "The power situation at present is quite grim," said Haryana Power Secretary Ajit Mohan Sharan here.

He said ongoing paddy sowing at peak season coupled with absence of rain have led to unprecedented shoot up in demand for power.

Several categories of power consumers across the state have been facing lomh hour power cuts due to shortage.

Meanwhile, the 210 MW Unit- 6 of Panipat Thermal Power Station (PTPS-2) of Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (HPGCL) achieved a record generation of 1582 Lakh units of power during June 2012 at a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of  104.60 percent, Anurag Agarwal, Managing Director of HPGCL said here.

Regarding revival of DCRTPP Units, he informed that all possible steps are being taken to bring the DCRTPP Units back on bars in minimum possible time.

The repair of HIP rotor of 300 MW Unit-2 is in advanced stage and Unit is expected to be re-commissioned by mid of August 2012.

The work of repair for 300 MW Unit-1 has been awarded to Original Equipment Manufacturer SEC China and Unit is expected to be back on bars by end of November 2012, he said.

Meanwhile, Haryana unit of the CPM on Tuesday demanded a high- level probe into the functioning of Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant at Khedar and Yamuna Nagar thermal plant.

Inderjit Singh, state secretary of the party said in Hisar on Tuesday these plants had not been working satisfactorily ever since these were commissioned.

Both these plants had not been able to generate power regularly due to technical faults and poor quality of equipment, he alleged.

He said engineers were of the view that poor machinery had allegedly been installed in these plants by the companies.

"This is a scandal involving thousands of crores and the guilty need to be prosecuted and brought to book," he alleged.
