Fatehgarh Sahib: Amid nationwide outrage over the rape of a girl in a moving bus in Delhi, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday said rape should be made a non-bailable offence.

Rape cases should also be tried in fast-track courts to ensure speedy justice to victims, he told reporters.
"Carrying out amendments in the existing provisions of rape laws for awarding harsh punishment to culprits is within the domain of the Centre," he said.

Rape should be made a non-bailable offence, Badal said after paying obeisance at the Sri Fatehgarh Sahib gurudwara here.

He said he had already requested the Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court to set up fast-track courts for dealing with rape cases.

Badal said his government was committed to enforce the provisions of the rape laws in the state in right earnest.

On the Delhi gangrape case, he demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrators of the crime.
