Lucknow: President Pranab Mukherjee will join in the three day-long celebration to mark the completion of 125 years of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature in Lucknow next month.

Revenue minister Ambika Chaudhary on Wednesday said that President Mukherjee has given his acceptance to attend one of the main functions to be organised by the UP government.

A three-day programme has been planned for the occasion beginning from January 6. A special sitting of the House will be held to commemorate the day it was constituted on January 8, 1887 under the Indian Council Act of 1861.

Chaudhary, who is also the convener of the committee set up to organise the functions, said a memento is being specially designed along with a commemorative stamp and coin, which would be released on the occasion.

An exhibition depicting rich history of the House will also be organised, Chaudhary said, adding that cultural programmes and lighting up of all historical buildings in the state capital is also on the cards.
