New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate a three-day conference of accountant generals on Monday that would deliberate on steps to strengthen audit practices.

The list of speakers at the conference include Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Chairman of Public Accounts Committee Murli Manohar Joshi and Chairman of Committee on Public Undertakings Jagdambika Pal, the CAG said in a statement.

The conference, organised by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), would be held between October 8-10. CAG Vinod Rai would also address the inaugural session.

The three-day long conference will deliberate mainly on audit practices, compliance audit approach, new challenges for performance audit and strengthening Public Financial Reporting.

The Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IA&AD), headed by the CAG, discharges its professional duties, both as an auditor and an accountant.

"In the public domain there is an increasing awareness and demand for transparency and accountability in public sector service delivery. The CAG is seen as the agency which is mandated to keep a watch on economic, efficient and effective governance," the statement added.
