New Delhi: Signature of UPA’s presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee on his resignation letter from the post of the chairman of Indian Statistical Institute is not authentic.

This has been claimed by a finger print expert whom another presidential poll nominee PA Sangma had sent the sample of Mukherjee’s signature on the resignation letter.

The expert’s clarification has lent more strength to PA Sangma’s claims that Mukherjee was a beneficiary of the office of profit even after filing nomination papers for presidential polls. Upping his ante on Mukherjee's candidature, Sangma has said that Pranab had not tendered his resignation as ISI chairman before filing nomination for President's post. Although Congress has rebutted these charges.

According to a news channel report, Sangma, presidential poll candidate backed by BJP and some regional parties, is also contemplating to further move his appeal with the report of the expert as proof even after the completion of the presidential election.

However, Congress has said that Sangma is repeating the baseless charges leveled by the fingerprint expert which holds no truth. But the parties backing Sangma, especially the BJP, are trying their best to prove that Mukherjee was beneficiary of office of profit at the time of filing his nomination papers for the top constitutional post.

Meanwhile, Sangma is desisting from issuing any statement on the entire issue but his team has sent the report of the expert to the Election Commission.

In fact, BJP wants to establish the fact that at the time of filing nomination for President's post he was also the chairman of ISI.
