New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday reviewed preparations for the November 4 rally to be addressed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to counter the Opposition offensive on a range of issues including FDI in multi-brand retail.

The rally at the historic Ramlila Grounds will also be addressed by Rahul Gandhi while Chief Ministers of all Congress-ruled states, PCC chiefs and senior leaders from the organization and the government are likely to attend it.

Dikshit, in a meeting attended by all Delhi Government Ministers, majority of Congress MLAs, municipal councilors and block Congress leaders, issued specific instructions to ensure presence of at least one lakh people in rally to make it a "grand success", party sources said.

She also tasked each of the MLAs to ensure presence of at least 2,500 people from their respective constituencies and told them that their contribution will be monitored.

Dikshit was given specific responsibility by the AICC to make the rally a success. DPCC President J P Aggarwal, who is not known to have good relationship with Dikshit, was not present in the meeting. Congress Legislature Party spokesman Mukesh Sharma said Aggarwal was invited to the meeting.

"The Chief Minister asked all MPs, MLAs, councillors and block Congress leaders level workers to work hard to make the rally a grand success," Sharma said. Three party MPs from the city Sandeep Dikshit, Mahabal Mishra and Ramesh Kumar were present in the meeting.

The Congress leadership is likely to use the occasion to explain to the people the benefits of allowing FDI in multi-brand retail and the rationale of other reform measures taken by UPA government "to bring economy back on rails".
