New Delhi: Promising tennis player Prerna Bhambri on Thursday emerged as the lone Indian survivor in the $10,000 ITF event after beating compatriot Ashvarya Shrivastava in straight-sets in the quarterfinals here.

The eighth seed Prerna defeated fourth-seeded Ashvarya from Maharashtra 6-2, 6-2 at the DLTA complex here to advance to the semifinals.

The Delhi girl will now face Zhaoxuan Yang of China, who got the better of Polish qualifier Joanna Nalborska 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals on Friday.

On the day, Prerna shone but her compatriots bowed out after suffering contrasting defeats in the quarterfinals.

Second-seed Rushmi Chakravathi went down fighting to sixth-seeded South Korean Hae-Sung Kim 6-7(9), 5-7.

After a high on Wednesday when she had outplayed national champion Ratnika Batra, it was a low for Rutuja Bhosale today, as she lost to third seed Mexican Nadia Abdala 6-3, 6-4.
