In his message, the President said, "The increasing production and higher standards of living that our economy has witnessed would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of our vital labour force."

He said on the occasion of May Day, "I extend my heartiest greetings and good wishes to all the workers of India".

"May Day, also known as 'Labour Day' or 'International Workers' Day', is an occasion when we pay tribute to the contribution that workers have made to progress, prosperity and well-being of our society.

"Let us, on this day recognise and celebrate the enormous role our working force is playing in enabling our nation attain rapid socio-economic progress," he said.
