New Delhi: President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Vice President Hamid Ansari have greeted the nation on the occasion of Dussehra and Durga Puja.

Patil said in a message Wednesday: “On the festive occasion of Dussehra, I send my greetings and best wishes to all my fellow citizens.”

“Dussehra celebrates the victory of good over evil. May the ensuing festival be a time to celebrate our unity as a nation as also to work whole heartedly for the betterment of the nation,” said the president, who is on a visit to Switzerland and Austria Sep 30-Oct 7.

The festival of Dussehra will be celebrated across the country Thursday.
 
Singh said Durga Puja and Dussehra were 'an inspiration for a life of righteous action'.
 
“These festivals signify the triumph of good over evil and are an inspiration for a life of righteous action,” he said in a message.
 
The prime minister hoped that Durga Puja and Dusshera would usher in peace, prosperity and happiness for all.
 
Ansari also extended his Dussehra greetings. He wished that the festival inspired all citizens to work for peace and prosperity of our nation.

“I extend my greetings and good wishes to the people of our country. The festival of Dussehra celebrates the victory of good over evil with traditional gaiety,” the vice president said in a message.
