President Pranab Mukherjee, while taking a special class at a government school on Monday on the occasion of Teachers' Day, mentioned the idea of 'One India One Election' in reply to a question asked by a class 11 student.

The student, Ragini, asked the President whether it would be good to hold all elections together since it would involve a lot of money. President Mukherjee replied, "The Election Commission can also put in their idea and efforts on holding the polls together and that will be highly beneficial".

President Pranab Mukherjee donned the hat of a teacher for the students of the Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Presidential Estate. He shared his views on a range of topics, including PM Modi's idea of holding all elections at the same time.

The idea to hold all elections simultaneously was first floated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a party meeting in March, saying this would cut down the huge cost of holding elections each year.

The Election Commission too had backed the idea way back in June.
