Faridabad: President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the 2013 edition of Surajkund International Handicrafts fair on February 2.

Managing Director of Haryana Tourism Development Corporation, Anand Mohan Sharan informed that the inauguration of 27th Surajkund Mela will take place on February 2 for the first time. However, the fair will be opened for the common people from February 1.

Last year, the Surajkund Crafts Mela had been upgraded as an international event and will now be known as 'Surajkund International Crafts Mela' from this year.

Around 800 sculptors from across the world will take part in the famous fair.

For the first time, the annual Surajkund fair was held in 1981. The event is now internationally acknowledged with scores of foreigners visiting to see the best of traditional Indian craftsmen displaying their skills and art.
