Thirty Governors and Lt. Governors of the states and union territories would attend the conference.

"The Prime Minister, Union Ministers of Defence, Finance, Home Affairs, Law and Justice, External Affairs, Tribal Affairs, Human Resource Development, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission and Minister of State (independent charge) in the Ministry of Development of northeastern region will participate in the two-day deliberations," the statement said.

The 44th Governors’ conference was first such conference presided by Pranab Mukherjee in February last year. It was attended by Prime Mininster Manmohan Singh and a few other Union Ministers.
