New Delhi: UPA Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee on Friday telephoned Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and is understood to have expressed his gratitude for extending support to him in the July 19 Presidential poll.

Mukherjee spoke to Kumar a day after JD(U) declared its support for the UPA Presidential nominee.

The Finance Minister had also called JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav yesterday to thank him for extending support for his Presidential bid, JD(U) sources said.

JD(U) had broken ranks with Opposition NDA on Friday to declare its support for Mukherjee in the election for the top constitutional office.
