New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) core group is likely to meet on Saturday evening to discuss the presidential election, party sources said.

The meeting comes a day after Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee was pitched as the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate for presidency.

Sources in the BJP said the meeting was likely to take place at party chief Nitin Gadkari's residence. There are also reports of a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders' meeting likely to be held on Sunday.

"Now that the Congress and the UPA have announced their candidate, the BJP and NDA will meet to decide what needs to be done," said BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did call BJP leaders on Friday but had he or other Congress leaders spoken to them before, things would have been better. The Prime Minister on Friday called senior BJP leader L.K.Advani, and Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley and sought the party's cooperation in electing Mukherjee as the next President.
