Kolkata: Pressure is mounting on Former Chief Minister of West Bengal and senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to attend the upcoming meeting of the party Politburo in the national capital.

Buddhadeb is under intense pressure to attend the meeting this time, keeping in view his absence in the earlier CPM politburo meet on September 29 and 30.

According to sources, Buddhadeb has been avoiding attending the Politburo meeting due to his differences with the Central party leadership.

However, CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat has been refuting the reports about his differences with Buddhadeb. After the end of last politburo meeting, Karat had said that CPM would contest in next polls in WB under Buddhadeb’s leadership.

Holding the view that Buddhadeb’s absence from the Monday’s politburo meet would send wrong signal this time, party state secretary Biman Bose wants to ensure his presence.

Notably, in contrast with CPM’s excuse for Buddhadeb ‘s weakening health for not attending the previous Politburo meet in September, the former CM had addressed a meeting of district unit in his home state same day on which the Politburo was meeting in the national capital.

Amidst the mounting pressure this time for attending Monday’s politburo meeting, an indecisive Buddhadeb said that he has not yet finalized anything on the matter.
