Pauri Garhwal: The local populace of mountainous regions of Uttarakhand has come forward to prevent the religious ceremony of animal sacrifice.

The priests have also decided to stop the archaic religious ritual at Ulkhagadhi where animal sacrifice has been a tradition on the occasion of Dussehra.

Taking a significant move in this context, the priests held a meeting and took a unanimous decision to renounce animal sacrifice this year. They have also sought the help from district administration in this regard.

The priests requested the administration to provide tight security during the Navaratra.

Similarly, animal sacrifice has also been stopped in the Danda Nagraja Temple this year. The villagers of the surrounding areas have promised to renounce the ritual.

The Srimad Bhagwat Katha had been organized in the temple premises from September 13. Villagers from Kapad, Lasera, Vrisni, Bajun, Bagnikhal, Diyusa, Baherakhal, Teri, Nasain had visited the Temple to listen the katha and promised to give up the tradition of animal sacrifice.
