New Delhi: Reviewing the key sectors of economy, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has pitched for comprehensive improvement in science and technology. 

According to highly placed sources, for the first time during seven years of the UPA regime, research work of eight different departments of science and technology has been reviewed.

A meeting was called by PMO on September 2, 2011 in this connection which was attended by Secretaries of Space Atomic Energy Department, Department of Defense Production, Bio-technology including Science and Technology. They were asked to give a detailed report on how to bring about improvement in different areas of science and technology.

During the meeting, a comprehensive draft was also prepared to encourage unique inventions made by individuals.

The government is also planning to increase the allocation to the department of science and technology in the five-year plan. A consensus has also reached over increasing the participation of private sector in the field of research work by 50 percent.

According to sources, the PMO has also indicated towards giving a re-think over pension related issues of scientists.

Government has also hinted at bringing about a change in the selection process of heads of public sector enterprises and giving preference to scientists.
