Itanagar: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday paid their last respects to former Arunachal  Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, who was killed in a helicopter crash on April 30.

Manmohan Singh, Gandhi and Chidambaram landed at the Raj Bhavan helipad here in IAF helicopters and were driven straight to the Nitin Vihar residence of Khandu.

They were at Khandu's residence for 20 minutes.

They had arrived at the Lilabari Airport in Assam by a special flight from Delhi.

Prior to their arrival, thousands of people had gathered near Khandu's official residence.

Khandu's body was found from the crash site at Luguthang in Tawang district on May 4, five days after his B3 single engine, four-seater helicopter disappeared after being last sighted at the Sela Pass.

The others killed were the helicopter pilots Capt J S Babbar, Capt T S Mamik, Khandu's security officer Yeshi Choddak and Yeshi Lhamu, sister of Tawant MLA Tsewang Dhondup.

The bodies were airlifted on Thursday to Tawang town from where Khandu's body was brought here.
