The main event began at 6.30 am, the Common Yoga Protocol started at 7 am and last for 45 minutes. There has been a huge turnout despite early thundershowers.

PM Modi led the celebrations at Capitol Complex, designed by French architect Le Corbusier. He arrived here last night and was received at the airport by Punjab and Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki.

The emphasis this year will be on participation of Divyangs, the nomenclature coined by PM Modi for differently-abled, youths and people from economically weaker sections.

The event will also be attended by defence forces, ITBP personnel, Panjab University students, yoga foundations, school children and a select few from yoga orientation training camps.

The main IDY event will witness participation of nearly 35,000 people at the Capitol Complex and 10,000 persons at 100 other locations across the city. It is being broadcast live by Doordarshan and All India Radio.
