The six family photographs were taken after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in the French Alps for a short holiday last week.

They were taken on March 3 - when two-year-old Prince George and Princess Charlotte, 10 months old, played in the snow for the first time.

"This was their first holiday as a family of four and the first time either of the children had played in the snow. It was very special and fun short holiday for the family. The Duke and Duchess hope people enjoy the photos," a Kensington Palace spokesperson said.

The 33-year-old second in line to Britain's throne is seen throwing around snow-calls with his wife and children.

The family of four are pictured together with the royal couple crouching down as they hold their children, while another photograph shows William putting his arm around his wife.

The photos show them dressed in their ski gear, including woolly hats all round, playing in the snow and posing in front of their chalet.

Skiing is a favourite pastime of the royals with Diana, Princess of Wales, introducing sons William and Harry to the slopes almost 25 years ago.

Kate, 34, is also a fan of skiing and before marrying William the pair went on a number of skiing holidays together.
