The state government has also decided to rope in eminent businessmen to improve the standard of education, according to an official release issued here on Tuesday.

Chavan attended a meeting on 'Change in the state through education from KG to PG' organized on Monday by state school education and sports department. Well-known businessmen including Godrej group chairman Adi Godrej and Tata group chairman Cyrus Mistry were also present.

"The economic scenario henceforth will be knowledge based. Therefore it is the need of the hour to raise the quality of education," Chavan was quoted as saying.

"Competition has increased due to globalization, as a reason educational institute in the state will have to compete with the international institutes in the future. Educational standards will have to be improved in this regard," he said.
