Jamshedpur: The claims of the state health department of ensuring free treatment to poor patients in private nursing homes and hospitals have proved to be a farce.

According to Jharkhand Human Rights Conference (JHRC), the provision of reserving 10 percent seats for poor patients have not been followed by many hospitals across the state.  Though after persuasion of the District administration, some private hospitals are ready to provide first aid in accident related cases but are shying away on the issue of providing free treatment to the poor.

JHRC president Manoj Mishra said, " A false report was given by the civil surgeon in this regard in which he claimed 10 percent reservation for the poor in 12 private hospitals across the city.  "

However, after the investigation it was revealed that none of the private hospital was providing any such services.

In this regard, JHRC has forwarded a letter to the Deputy Commissioner seeking a reply on the number of poor patients treated by the 12 hospitals since 2010.

In case the information given by the civil surgeon is proved wrong the JHRC will approach the court.
