While campaigning for her brother Rahul Gandhi in Amethi on Saturday, Priyanka also tried to strike an emotional chord with the people here as she reminded them of her family’s close-knit relations with this seat.

Priyanka said, “She had contested elections from Chandni Chowk. Did she ever go back there?”

Reminding voters in Amethi of her family’s strong relation with this seat, Priyanka said the people here used to love her father and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi as much as she and her brother loved him.

She said Rahul has a vision for Amethi and has done a lot of work for its upliftment, socially and economically.

“Rahul has foresight and his developmental works were not just limited to his constituency, but extended to areas around it. He has always wanted people to benefit from the development he initiated," she told a public meeting here.

Priyanka compared Rahul with her father Rajiv Gandhi.

“Like Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul too had to face the criticism of the opposition parties. Opponents say Rahul has not done much in his constituency but I have a long list of developmental works that he initiated for the people of Amethi," she said.

“Today, Amethi has road connecting to cities, technical institutions, schools and proper training centres to train youth in various vocational programmes. Over 12 lakh women benefited directly from the welfare schemes started by Rahul,” she added.

Priyanka also clarified that she won’t campaign in Varanasi for Congress candidate Ajay Rai, who is pitted against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal.
