Kharagpur: Students of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, who are backing social activist Anna Hazare in his fight against corruption, boycotted the 57th annual convocation of the premier institution that had Manmohan Singh as the chief guest on Monday.

Students, who have been sitting on protest in support of Anna Hazare since August 16, marched towards the campus in the morning wearing a black badge and holding the national flag. The students, who chanted slogans like ‘PM Go Back’ were stopped near Chandmari hospital by the police deployed there.

The local police later tried to convince the students against the protest asked them to stop their protest otherwise they would be arrested.

After holding their protest for an hour, the students finally returned to the original venue of their protest.

B.Tech student Ritesh singh, who was leading the march said, “We are boycotting the programme of the PM who is heading a corrupt government. We want to highlight our demands in the ceremony, but the police are not letting us proceed.”
