Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s announcement of 484 projects worth Rs 6,035 crore on the occasion of the fifth death anniversary of Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshi Ram on Sunday has drawn flak from rival political parties.

BJP spokesman Hridayaram Dikshit alleged, “Mayawati’s announcement of projects involving such huge amount without the approval of the legislature has set an example of financial irregularity.”

Addressing media persons at the party headquarters, Dikshit said, “She wants to gain political mileage. After emptying the state exchequer for more than four years, she is still not leaving any opportunity for corruption.”

He said, “By taking the moral responsibility of her corrupt officials who have been continuously charged by the Lokayukta, Mayawati should resign from her post.”

State Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi alleged that the Chief Minister’s announcement of schemes involving thousands of crores is nothing but political gimmick. As there is lack of budgetary provision, it becomes impossible to complete the plans. She said, “This has nothing to do with development.”

RLD national general secretary Munna Singh Chauhan alleged that Mayawati's announcement is only an election stunt.
