Haridwar: The protest by residents of Khogpur and Bishanpur Kundi  opposing the move to ban mining in these areas entered its second day on Sunday.

Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Harish Rawat and Baba Hathyogi rendered their support to the villagers during the protest.

Rawat said, “Mining should be allowed as per the provision. I will talk to the state government in this regard.”

Hathyogi said, “If the mining is stopped in the area, River Ganga is bound to change its course which will pose a threat of flood to people residing near the river bank.”

He said that the Matri Sadan’s criticism of mining in the region is illogical and unjustified . He requested state government to reconsider the issue.
