New Delhi: Thousands of people including the supporters of Kamtapur Progressive party, Revolutionary Socialist Party and Progressive Peoples Party staged protest at Jantar Mantar demanding formation of a separate Kamtapur state by carving six districts of West Bengal.

Kamtapur Progressive Party chief Atul Rai said, “The formation of a separate Kamtapur state by carving some districts of West Bengal and Assam is a valid demand. It’s a decade-long demand of the people of Kamtapur region.”

Kamtapur should not be included in the Gorkhaland added Rai. He also demanded that infiltration from Bangladesh and Nepal be stopped. 

He also demanded that their regional language should be given a constitutional status. MLA Ramchandra Yadav who also joined the protest said, “I completely support the formation of separate Kamtapur state.”

Several people including VP Yadav, Anjum Ansari, Mrityunjay Malik, Sadhna Mukherjee, Rameshwar Prasad Mahato and Narendra Prasad Yadav joined the one-day protest.
