Earlier, Anganwadi workers and assistants took out a protest rally in Dharwad (Karnataka) and staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner's office. They raised slogans against the Union and the State governments.

According to the workers, the ICDS scheme was launched in India 40 years ago and it has the distinction of being the only scheme which has lasted over four decades.

According to reports, Karnataka ranks number one in effective implementation of the ICDS and it is due to the efforts of Anganwadi workers and assistants.

The Anganwadi workers are getting a salary of Rs 3,000 from the Centre and Rs 3,000 from the State government while assistants are getting Rs 1,500 from each.
