Bhopal: Opposition parties and minority groups have launched a scathing attack on Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for the introduction of ‘Geeta Sar’in the school curriculum.

This is not for the first time when a state government decision has landed in the thick of controversy. Previously, the move of state government to introduce ‘Surya Namaskar’ in schools met with a stern response from the opposition parties.

The leader of opposition in Legislative Assembly, Ajay Singh Rahul said, “It is another step of saffronising the education and the move will be strongly opposed in all parts of the state.” Rahul asserted that educational institutions were not meant for Hawan and Geeta Paath.

On the matter, Archbishop of Bhopal, Dr Leo Carnelio said, “It is an unwarranted interference of the state government in the education system.”

Congress MLA, Arif Akil raised the question, “Why only Geeta Saar, why not other religious education can be included in the curriculum?”

Another statement opposing the decision came from Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary Badal Saroj, as he said the announcement is illogical because ancient literature like Geeta Saar has been already a part of curriculum in the form of various topics of philosophy, Sanskrit and Hindi.
