Hyderabad: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) rebel MLA P Sobha Nagi Reddy today sought a week's time to give a clarification on the disqualification petition moved against her.
Sobha, who voted in favour of the no-confidence motion against the Congress Government on December 5, met Assembly Speaker N Manohar in response to a notice issued by him.
Sobha, an MLA from Allagadda in Kurnool district, had been sailing with YSR Congress for some time now.
She voted in support of the no-confidence motion along with 16 congress MLAs who too were loyal to Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
After meeting with the Speaker, Sobha questioned the locus standi of the PRP in issuing a whip to her when the party itself merged with the Congress.
"I had always opposed the merger of PRP with Congress..they have no moral right to issue a whip to me when they have become part of the Congress," Reddy maintained.
This was the second disqualification petition the PRP filed against Sobha for defying the party and siding with Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Incidentally, the PRP continues to be recognised as a separate group in the Assembly though it merged with congress in August.
