New Delhi: The PSU banks have opened 11,887 new branches during last three years. More than 1,72,000 people have been appointed in new branches across the country. Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena informed about this in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

Namo Narain Meena said that PSU banks opened 3,719 new branches in 2009-10. As many as 3,506 branches in 2010-11 and 4,462 branches in 2011-12 were opened by PSU banks. The new branches were opened in rural areas, small towns and metros in the country. The new branches of 25 PSU banks absorbed the workforce of 58,000 employees in 2009-10. Whereas, 57,758 people in 2010-11 and 55,632 people in 2011-12 were recruited by PSU banks.

Meena said that 26 PSU banks cumulatively gave loans as much as Rs 2.74 lakh crore to agriculture sector in 2011-12. Education loan of Rs 46,740 crore was sanctioned by PSU banks. Loan of Rs 2.23 lakh crore was given to women.  

Moreover, 5,539 loan complaint cases were addressed in the last financial year. As many as 3,256 cases have been solved in the current financial year. The cases were regarding the rejection of loan and delay in release of loans.
