Dehradun: The Health Department on Sunday successfully managed to conduct pulse polio campaign in the state despite threats from striking Uttarakhand Health and Family Welfare Association to disrupt the operation.

Senior officials of the health department visited Doon Women’s hospital, to ensure that that Pulse Polio Campaign was not disrupted by ANM workers strike. As part of an alternative measure state’s Health and Family Welfare Department engaged ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activists), staff nurses, Aganwadi workers and NSS cadets in this exercise. As a result Pulse Polio Campaign remained a success with children being administered drops on almost all booths in state.

On the other agitating ANM (auxiliary nurse midwife) officials toured a number of health centers and sub-centres to ensure that almost all their colleagues were taking part in the agitation. At some places ANM workers even raised slogans against the state government and also held demonstrations. Later on all of them gathered at the Parade ground in the city where they held a sit-in protest and demanded payment of their arrears.

During this they also denounced misbehaviour meted out to ANM workers during agitation. On the other CMO Dr RP Bhatt claimed that the pulse polio campaign in the state remained a near success on Sunday despite ANM workers’ strike.
