Chandigarh: To tide over acute power shortage in Punjab, the state government on Sunday banned with immediate effect use of air conditioners in all its offices, boards and corporations.
It also decided to change the office timings from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm without lunch break in all its offices from August 1, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said.
These instructions will remain in force till further orders, he said.
The spokesman said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had asked the Chief Secretary to issue detailed instructions to the district administration in this regard.
All district heads of the offices would be solely responsible for ensuring strict compliance of these instructions, the order said.
These instructions would also be applicable to the camp offices of Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and SSPs besides the Commissioners of the Municipal Corporations in the state.
The spokesman said supply of drinking water would be ensured at the door steps of residents in cities and towns through water tankers so that safe potable water could be provided to avoid water borne diseases.
