Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has retained its crown in Punjab by creating history in the recently concluded Assembly polls, is set to continue its victory campaign in the municipal, municipal committee and panchayat elections too.

The BJP is likely to go to these local body polls on development planks.

The saffron party will announce the names of its party candidates by May 22.

The BJP will launch joint poll campaign with its alliance partner Shiromani Akali Dal in these polls to send a positive message among the voters that there is unity in the coalition government in the state.

In meeting presided over by Punjab BJP chief Ashwani Sharma, it was decided that the party will go to local body polls on the development planks. Several issues like selection of candidates and campaign strategy were discussed in the meeting.

It is worth mentioning that elections would be held in 4 municipal corporations, 32 municipal committees and urban bodies in the month of June.
The BJP contests 38 while SAD 27 seats in Amritsar. Similarly the saffron party and SAD contest 37 and 38 seats respectively in Ludhiana, while in Jalandhar the BJP and SAD field 38 and 22 candidates respectively.

As far as Patiala is concerned, the BJP fights for 15 seats while the SAD contests 35.

Several senior leaders including state legislative party leader Chunni Lal Bhagat, Madan Mohan Mittal, Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, Ajay Jamwal,

Kamal Sharma, Manjit Singh Roy, Balram Das Tandon and Manoranjan Kalia, Jalandhar Mayor Rakesh Rathore and Amritsar Mayor Shwait Malik were present in the meeting.
