Amritsar: Taking strong exception to Sukhbir Singh Badal's remarks that 70 per cent of Congressmen are hooked to drugs, Punjab Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Tuesday asked the SAD president to undergo a dope test. (Agencies)
"I offer myself for dope test and ask Sukhbir to also undergo the same in any laboratory," said Randhawa, a Congress MLA from Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district.
"And whosoever is found addicted to any drug, he has to quit politics," he said flaying Sukhbir for his remarks at a gathering in Patiala.
The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister had said more than 70 per cent of the Congress leaders were hooked to drugs.
Randhawa said Sukhbir’s remarks reflected his immaturity and insensibility towards a major issue of drug problem.
"The situation is alarming. Every family directly or indirectly faces problem relating to the drug menace in Punjab.
"The number of Punjabi youths in Army is decreasing because they are losing their physical fitness due to drugs," he said.
The MLA alleged SAD-BJP leaders were patronizing drug dealers in border areas of Punjab and dismissed reports that drugs were coming from Pakistan or neighboring states.
"Foreigners are not coming here to sell drugs. After all, smuggled drugs are being sold in countryside of Punjab where law and order is under control of police which directly works under Sukhbir Badal.
"The state Home minister must clarify this position on sale of drugs in Punjab," Randhawa said.
He said instead of issuing baseless statements, Sukhbir must introspect on the drug problem highlighted by Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.
"And the Congress will support the ruling alliance in eradication of the drug menace," he said.
