Chandigarh: The declaration of first list of candidates by the Akali Dal has led to the rise in resentment among the party members. This can be gauged from the fact that several party workers have decided to contest elections as Independent candidates.

Annoyed over the party high command decision to give Sarhind constituency ticket to former MLA Prof. Prem Singh Chandu Majra, the present MLA Deedar Singh Bhatti has denied to accept the party ticket for his constituency and declared to fight the battle of ballots independently.

With Assembly elections round the corner, Akali Dal leader and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal tried to pacify the situation. However, adamant on his demand, Bhatti infront of his supporters declared to contest election as Independent.

On a similar note, senior local leaders Jaswant Singh Gachchan Majra and Jasveer Singh Manvi have opposed party decision to field Iqbal Singh Jhoonda from Amargarh.

Jhhonda is MLA from Dhuri. More so, Vice-President Akali Dal, Rajendra Singh Kanjhla and other party functionaries have opposed the decision of fielding former Minister Govind Singh Kanjhla from Dhuri seat.

Senior Youth Akali member Satbeer Singh Khatra has protested against Kuldeep Kaur Tohra who will fight elections from Patiala village constituency.

On the other hand, the Bhartiya Janata Party is likely to declare the names of its candidates by the end of this year. State BJP in-charge Shanta Kumar has presented the recommendation made by the candidates infront of parliamentary board.
