Mansa: Farmers of Punjab are distressed as Monsoon is playing truant with the state. There is no sufficient water in the canals to grow crops due to which they are compelled to spend extra penny on sowing of paddy and other crops.

Not only this, Sardulgarh canal which supplies water for irrigating fields around the canal is not functional for the last 12 days.

As per the irrigation department sources, water supply in the canal has been stopped for two weeks and is expected to be resumed on July 3.

While ruing over lack of sufficient rains in the state, farmers of the area told the media that cultivation in the state has been hampered due to monsoon playing truant with the region.

In this regard, one of the farmers named Kuldeep Singh said farmers having one bore tube well has to spend one thousand more on irrigating their fields .Due to shortage of power, they have become dependent on hand pumps. Their woes have doubled after supply from water works came down in rural areas of the state.
