Mansa: The clash between cops and Punjab farmers, who were protesting against the land acquisition for setting up a thermal power plant in Govindpura, claimed the life of a person and left 50 others injured, including police, at Mansa district.

Farmer Hazura Singh, son of Surjeet Singh, lost his life during the altercation with police while staging protest against the land acquisition. As many as 150 farmers are reported to have been arrested in this regard.

Earlier, the farmers had announced that 17 groups of the farmers would head towards Govindpura on August 2 to protest the land acquisition.

According to sources, about 1200 farmers were heading towards Govindpura from various districts-- Moga, Bathinda, Barnala and some others.

When police interrupted them and started lathicharge in Pandher Village, the farmers resorted to stone pelting in retaliation.
