Ludhiana: Five women were killed and six others sustained serious injuries when an overcrowded jeep hit three vehicles near Jagraon on Ludhiana-Ferozepur road on Sunday, police here said.

Jagraon SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor said that all the five women killed were travelling in the jeep and were on their way to Badowal near Ludhiana to participate in a religious function.

The deceased have been identified as Birpal Kaur, Ranjit Kaur, Harpal Kaur, Kulwinder Kaur and Palwinder Kaur.     The injured were admitted to a local hospital where the condition of the jeep driver, Karnail Singh, is stated to be serious.

All the four vehicles were badly damaged in the incident, the SSP said.
