Sangrur: Punjab has emerged as the country’s only state where the government has purchased wheat from the farmers at minimum support price.

Followed by the record yield of wheat crop in Punjab, the state government has claimed to have purchased the entire foodgrain from the farmers at fixed rates. All the agencies have purchased the 1,06,57,115 tonne of wheat from the farmers.

Talking to the reporters on Saturday during a press conference, Punjab Foodgrain Agro Corporation Vice-chairman and former FCI member Satpal Singla said, “we have bought 12,13,729 metric tonne of wheat from the farmers.”

He said, Punjab Agro in Sangrur leads with largest purchase of 1,44,563 tonne wheat from the farmers, followed by Patiala and Ludhiana. Punjab Agro has also made a payment of Rs 1,00,030 crore to the farmers. 

Punjab Agro MD Ashok Gupta, GM (Recruitment) Rattan Mittal and district magistrates of all the districts are keeping a close watch on the purchasing arrangements.
