Chandigarh: The Punjab government has chalked out a comprehensive plan for development of Zirakpur and Dera Bassi belts of the state as modern satellite towns.
Announcing this on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said the plan is in the final stages of discussion and the government is mulling to rope in international real estate developers for the purpose.
"I have envisioned this plan to give a facelift to the entire region and the focus is on the planned development of this entire area," Sukhbir said after laying foundation stone of a six-lane ring road in Zirakpur near here.
He made a slew of other announcements including widening of the Chandigarh-Bathinda expressway, a Sub-Tehsil status to Zirakpur and a fund of Rs 80 crore for construction of a new sports stadium at Nabha Sahib.
He said a tri-nation wrestling tournament involving India, Pakistan and Iran will soon be organised in the state.
