Chandigarh: A set of guidelines has been issued on Tuesday by the Punjab government regarding publication of advertisements for overseas placements to keep a check on unscrupulous agents, who take people for a ride by promising jobs in foreign country.
The guidelines issued are as per the directions of Union ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and Press Council of India, whereby only registered recruiting agents could place ads for overseas placements.
"It has been found by the Ministry of Indian Overseas Affairs about the publication of advertisement regarding overseas employment that jobs by unauthorised foreign employees or recruiting agents are being published," he said.
Under section 16 of the Emigration Act 1983, only registered recruiting agents and genuine foreign employers with valid permit are allowed to advertise and recruit Indian citizens for overseas jobs, a government spokesman said.
He further said that it was also mandatory to indicate their permit number while inserting the advertisement.
