Ludhiana: Expressing concern over supply of poor quality of drinking water in rural belts, the Punjab government on Wednesday directed concerned officials to collect water samples from all villages for quality test.

"After collection of the samples, the process for quality analysis would be completed within the next three months and on basis of the report, the required steps would be initiated," Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

It was found that poor quality of potable water is causing fatal diseases in some rural areas, he said.

On power shortage in the state, Badal said the delayed monsoon has further aggravated the situation and the government is making best possible efforts to provide uninterrupted power supply.

The works in all thermal power plants are on in full swing and there would be no power shortage in the next two years, he said.
