Chandigarh: With youths of the state falling prey to drug addiction, the Punjab government has decided to honour the panchayats of 'drug free' villages, besides launching a special drive to create awareness among the people against the menace.
    
Directions have been issued to identify the villages that are completely free from drugs after which the panchayats of those villages would be specially honoured, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra said here on Thursday.
    
He said that the department would also initiate a campaign in the villages having maximum cases of drug usage and efforts would be initiated to curb the trend. Under the drive, seminars would also be held to make the people aware of the ill-effects of drug addiction.
