Chandigarh: After the recent arrests of BJP MLA Raj Khurana and his aide Devinder Singh in the Rs 1.5 crore graft case, which sparked off a heat in the political landscape of Punjab, CBI is now gearing up to tighten its noose around State local bodies minister Manoranjan Kalia and Technical Education Minister Swarna Ram. The investigating agency has summoned both the cabinet ministers to question them on Monday.

The move comes as a major setback to Punjab state government, as few days back it had written a letter to the CBI and tried to prove Khurana innocent.

Meanwhile, the court has extended Khurana and Devinder’s remand till May 10. On the basis of information given by Khurana and Devinder during the interrogation, CBI had appealed to the court to extend their remand by 12 more days.

CBI revealed that Khurana's domestic helper Joginder kept the money in Devinder’s car after taking it from the complainant Manpreet Kaur.

The defence counsel protested against the remand and claimed that CBI actions are politically influenced as the complainant himself has been involved in fraud and theft cases.

The court after hearing both the sides handed over the accused to CBI on a three-day remand.
