Chandigarh,Feb 05(Agencies): People in the northern plains of Punjab and Haryana on Saturday got a respite from the chilling cold with temperature rising above normal.
However,several areas in the region, including Ambala,Karnal,Rohtak,Ludhiana and Patiala were blinded by a thick blanket of fog in the morning hours.

Minimum temperatures hovered between one to five degrees Celsius above normal in most parts of the region, the MET office said here.
Patiala settled at a low of 7.9 degrees Celsius which was one notch above normal While Hisar had a low of 8.4 degrees Celsius,one notch above normal,the minimum temperature at Narnaul was nine degrees Celsius, three notches above normal.
Karnal had a low of 9.6 degrees Celsius,two notches above normal followed by 10 degrees Celsius at Rohtak which was three notches above normal.
 Minimum temperature in Ludhiana was pegged at 9.4 degrees Celsius which was two notches above normal.

Amritsar had a low of 10.4 degrees Celsius,five notches above normal,while minimum temperature in Chandigarh was 11.5 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal.
While Gurgaon settled at a low of 12 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal, the minimum temperature in Bhiwani was 13.2 degrees Celsius.
The MET forecast further rise in day as well as night temperatures in the region during the next two days.
