Chandigarh: After the Punjab government’s failure to give a proper definition of economically weaker section of society in the state, Punjab and Haryana High court has asked the Parkash Singh Badal led government to define the economically weaker section of society in the state.

A petition filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court has also questioned the state government’s authority to reserve 25 pc seats in schools for the economically weaker students.

The court ruled that state government is giving preference to only those students whose parents are BPL card holders whereas BPL card holders and economically weaker section are two separate classes. However, Haryana government failed to give a satisfactory reply on the issue.
