Chandigarh: Punjab on Saturday joined the nation in celebrating the 64th Republic day amidst tight security arrangements.

Contingents of police, Homeguards, NCC and school children among others participated in the parades held at several district headquarters in the states.
Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil unfurled the tri-colour at Ropar, while Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal took salute at Amritsar.
The functions to mark the Republic Day were organised at other district headquarters in Punjab including Jalandhar, Patiala, Ludhiana and Bathinda.
Tight security arrangements had been put in place in the state to ensure that the Republic Day celebrations pass off peacefully.
