Chandigarh: Punjab government is planning to introduce a cost-effective water purification system in rural areas in collaboration with a Swiss company, Aqua Infinite.

The state government's intent is to provide 100 percent potable water to people. A decision to this effect was taken by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at a meeting held with Jennifer Beresford, a representative of Aqua Infinite, here.

Aqua Infinite provides commercial scale water purification equipment. Badal said the presence of heavy metals in ground water has been found in samples tests conducted across the state.

The company, on a request of Punjab government, agreed to set up a purification system as a pilot project in five places.
